Left Write Hook Film Screening & Panel Discussion – Horsham Sexual Assault Awareness Month

Sexual Assault Awareness Month is a time to raise awareness of sexual violence and the harm it causes, highlight the support available to victim survivors and their loved ones, and call for the change needed to build a world free from sexual violence.

Join The Sexual Assault & Family Violence Centre for a special Q&A screening of the multi-award-winning Australian documentary Left Write Hook

Location: Auditorium, Federation University Horsham

This is a free event, however, registrations are essential, please register via Horsham SAAM Screening & Panel 

Left Write Hook is a powerful film following survivors of childhood sexual abuse as they take part in a unique recovery program that combines trauma-aware creative writing and non-contact boxing.

After the screening, stay for a live panel discussion with survivors, filmmakers and local sector leaders exploring trauma recovery, survivor leadership and the impact of innovative community programs.

What to expect:

  • A screening of the multi-award-winning documentary Left Write Hook
  • A live Q&A panel with survivors, filmmakers and sector leaders
  • An opportunity to learn about survivor-led approaches to healing
  • A chance to connect with others who care about supporting recovery and community wellbeing

This Sexual Assault Awareness Month event is presented by The Sexual Assault & Family Violence Centre and Left Write Hook and supported by Women’s Health Grampians and Wimmera South West Family Violence Partnership.

Please arrive from 12:30pm for light lunch and networking, the screening will commence promptly at 1pm.

 

About the film

Left Write Hook follows a group of survivors participating in a unique recovery program that combines trauma-aware creative writing with non-contact boxing.

Created by survivors, the program supports participants to reconnect with their bodies, reclaim their voices and rebuild strength, confidence and community.

The documentary has received national recognition including Best Feature Documentary at the Australian International Documentary Conference and the Audience Award at the Melbourne International Film Festival.

Through deeply personal stories, the film offers a powerful and hopeful exploration of survivor-led healing.

The Sexual Assault & Family Violence Centre acknowledges the traditional owners and custodians of the land we stand on. We are committed to working toward creating a community where all people indigenous and non-indigenous are safe, connected and empowered to live well. The Sexual Assault & Family Violence Centre recognises the diverse needs of our community and we ensure our services are inclusive of all children, young people and their families including those who are of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent, from culturally and/or linguistically diverse backgrounds, those who identify as LGBTIQ and persons living with disability.
