Our Year of Impact

We are proud to share The Sexual Assault & Family Violence Centre’s 2024 Year of Impact.

As we work towards our vision of a community free from sexual assault and family violence, and a society underpinned by the principles of gender equality, social justice and human rights, this year has seen our continued commitment to those impacted by sexual and family violence, with more than 5,500 clients supported throughout the year.

Our work and services have centred around their journey; while also focusing on prevention and addressing the causes of violence, harnessing the power of the lived experience and raising their voices, educating the community and expanding our breadth of work and service areas to ensure a holistic service is provided to our clients.

The past year has been about growth and harmonisation for our organisation – across footprint, services and client cohort as we enter the final year of our Strategic Plan 2019-2024. Our specialist and dedicated staff have ensured so many within our community are supported on their journey to recovery:

Our Impact and reach
  • 5,570 clients were supported across The SAFV Centre, with a significant increase due to the welcoming of our South West service, Emma House, to our organisation.
  • 2,930 adults, young people and children received a therapeutic service including counselling and group programs, a 5% increase on the previous year. 68% of these clients accessed therapeutic counselling for sexual assault.
  • 1,509 women, children and young people received family violence case management.
  • 96 young people and children received therapeutic treatment for problem sexual and sexually abusive behaviours across Barwon and Wimmera.
  • 555 clients supported in the Victims Assistance Program in Barwon and South West.
  • 405 clients supported by our Legal Program in the South West.
  • 197 secondary consultations provided to professionals within Barwon and Wimmera.
  • 1,027 participants attended our professional training.
  • 6,834 family violence cases supported by our staff within The Orange Door Barwon and South West.
In October we completed the transition of Emma House to our organisation, expanding our geographic footprint to include Barwon, Wimmera and the South West regions of Victoria. With a strong understanding and experience in rural and regional areas, we are proud to welcome the South West to our organisation and provide trauma-informed client services and cohesive leadership to the region. This transition was the success of the collaboration across both organisations, and by all teams, with our client services well supported by our corporate and strategy and impact units.

This past year we commenced delivering the Victims Assistance Program (VAP) across the Barwon and South West regions. This was a significant achievement for our organisation, expanding our trauma-informed services for victims of crime across our community and expanding our government funding sources, further bolstering our reputation as a leading organisation, focused on client outcomes. We are incredibly proud of the achievements of this team in their first year and their reach and support for victims of crime.

Our sincere appreciation to the many clients for trusting us with your experience and journey. Providing victim-survivors with the opportunity to use their voice to advocate for change and highlight the impact of violence has been a strong focus for our organisation this year as we completed our client journey mapping project, to establish a framework for engaging with clients and people with lived experience of sexual and family violence.

We are grateful to all of our partners, donors and supporters who continue to advocate for the work of our organisation and work together to deliver support and services to our community.

The next 12 months are already showing exciting opportunities as we finalise and launch our new strategic plan, driving us forward with a sense of collaboration, innovation and collective responsibility.

We encourage you to join us as we reflect on our year and celebrate the achievements of our staff, organisation and our clients in our 2024 Year of Impact report.
