Groups
We offer a range of groups to provide support, including:
Trauma-focused Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (TACT)
TACT is for women over the age of 18 years who have been impacted by sexual assault and/or family violence, and is designed to:
- support the participant to develop a greater understanding of trauma
- increase their emotional awareness; and
- develop the use of practical tools to manage emotional regulation in their day-to-day living.
Participants have said that the program has assisted them to:
- increase their levels of mindfulness and self-awareness.
- develop an improved understanding of the impact of trauma
- develop strategies to effectively manage their symptoms.
The TACT program is being offered in Geelong regularly throughout the year.
Connect
Connect is for mothers (or female carers) and their child/ren who have been affected by family violence. This program focuses on strengthening the mother-child relationship after family violence.
The group offers a space for children to talk about their feelings, to express themselves and to share their experiences and perspectives with their Mums.
The group supports women to understand the impact of the trauma of violence on themselves and their children and enhances their ability to ‘tune into’ their children and respond in meaningful ways.
Children and Mothers in Mind (CMiM)
The program is available for women and their children, aged 4 years and younger who have been impacted by family violence. It seeks to support the attachment between the mother and child and empower women in their confidence and competence as parents following family violence.
Trauma-focused Acceptance and Commitment Therapy for Youth (TACT-Y)
A practical, group program for young people (14-17 years) who have experienced sexual assault and/or family violence. Program aims to increase young people’s understanding of the impacts of trauma,
while developing practical ways of managing difficult thoughts, feelings and experiences. Young people will participate in a combination of individual and group-based learning and discussions, as well as activities using music, writing, art, media and movement.
Body and Mind
The ‘Body and Mind’ program assists with self-awareness, understanding of trauma and calming the body and mind.
This program offers seven sessions designed for women and men who have experienced sexual assault and women who have experienced family violence.
These regular sessions offer strategies that will assist with day to day living.
